About the college:

The seed ofAssamAgricultural University (AAU) was sown way back in 1913 with the establishment of an agricultural research station atKarimganjin Barak Valley followed by another atTitabarin 1923 inBrahmaputraValley. Although the stations conducted research and training, the need for an agricultural and a veterinary college was felt immediately after independence leading to the establishment of theAssamAgricultural College atJorhatand theAssamVeterinary College atNagaonin 1948. Later on, in 1969, theAssamAgricultural University was established embracing both these Colleges and shifting the Veterinary college fromNagaonto the present location atKhanapara, Guwahati.

AssamAgricultural University is the first institution of its kind in the whole of North-Eastern Region of India. The main goal of this institution is to produce globally competitive human resources in farm sector and to carry out research in both conventional and frontier areas for production optimization as well as to disseminate the generated technologies as public good for benefiting the food growers/ producers and traders involved in the sector while emphasizing on sustainability, equity and overall food security at household level.
