What is SET?

SET stands for Symbiosis Entrance Test. It is an entrance examination conducted by the Symbiosis International University, Pune for admission into undergraduate courses of institutes associated with the International University.
BBA LLB candidates have the option to opt for any of the following programmes after successfully passing the Symbiosis Entrance Test:

  • BA LLB
  • B.Des
  • BBA
  • BCA
  • BA
  • B.Sc. Economics (Hons)
  • B.Sc. Liberal Arts
  • B.Tech
  • B.Sc. Nursing
  • B.SC MT

In Symbiosis Institute of Technology (SIT) candidates are also admitted through JEE MAIN which is a national level engineering entrance examination.

Structure of SET 2018

SET will be conducted in pen and paper mode (OMR based) only. The examination will be conducted only on the notified date.  SET comprises of these papers:

There will be 150 questions each in law, design, and general papers while health sciences and engineering papers will consist of 200 questions each. The exam will be conducted in two sessions. Each session’s duration will be two and a half hours. Candidates have to appear in their respective shifts i.e. morning or evening.

The questions will be of objective type consisting of four options with only one correct response. There will be no negative marking for an incorrect response to a particular question. Following is the exam pattern for different papers of the examination:

SET 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Following is the laid down eligibility criteria for SET 2018: –

For BCA:

  • Candidates have to pass their 12th examination or diploma in engineering/technology with minimum 50% marks.
  • For SC/ST category candidates requirement of minimum, marks are 45%.

For B.A.L.L.B/B.B.A.L.L.B:

  • Candidates have to pass their 12th examination in any stream with minimum 45% marks.
  • For SC/ST category candidates requirement of minimum marks are 40%.
  • Appearing candidates can also apply for the examination given that they have to submit their required documents at the time of admission.

For B.B.A:

  • Candidates have to pass their 12th examination in any stream with minimum 50% marks.
  • For SC/ST category candidates requirement of minimum, marks are 45%.

For B.Sc. (Liberal Arts):

  • Candidates have to pass their 12th examination in any stream with minimum 50% marks.
  • For SC/ST category candidates requirement of minimum, marks are 45%.
  • Foreign Nationals (FN), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) &NRIs will have to apply through the Symbiosis Centre for International Education (SCIE).
  • NRI candidates appearing in the 12th examination in India are also eligible to apply.

For B.Tech:

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics as compulsory subjects with any one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical as an additional subject.
  • Candidates have to pass their 12th examination in any stream with minimum 45% marks.
  • For SC/ST category candidates requirement of minimum marks are 40%.

B.Sc. Economics (Hons):

  • Candidates have to pass their 12th examination in any stream with minimum 50% marks.
  • For SC/ST category candidates requirement of minimum, marks are 45%.

B.Des:

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 in any stream or equivalent or 10+3 diploma with minimum 50% marks in aggregate.
  • Final year appearing candidates are also eligible to apply given that they have to submit their required documents at the time of admission.

Application Form and Submission Procedure for SET

Candidates will have to register themselves online by visiting the official website SET. The registration will begin in the second week of February 2018 and will stay active until the second week of April 2018.

A candidate has the option to register for one paper from the morning session and one paper from evening session. The onus lies on the candidates to provide correct and accurate information while registration. Details once submitted finally will not be altered in any case.

Candidates have to upload their scanned coloured passport sized photograph at the time of registration in required size and format (jpeg).

The test fees are Rs 1,500/-. The payment window will be available from the second week of February 2018 until the third week of April 2018.

Demand Draft

  • If a candidate opts for demand draft payment option, then he has to submit a crossed demand draft obtained from any nationalized bank amounting Rs 1,500/- in favour of ‘Symbiosis Test Secretariat’ payable at Pune.
  • Stamped Symbiosis copy is to be sent to the following address:

The examination fee is non-refundable. In no case, the request for refund of examination fee will be considered by the exam conducting body.

Here is the gist of the steps involved in online application:

  • Fill the online form with correct details by registering on the official website.
  • Upload your recently clicked coloured passport sized photograph.
  • Complete the payment process by using a preferred mode.
  • Download the confirmation page with your application number on it.

SET 2018 Admit Card

Candidates will be able to download their admit card from the official website in last week of April 2018. They have to appear for the test at the specified test center only. In no case, the test city or the test venue will be changed for a candidate.

Candidates must be in possession of their application number in order to download the admit card. Admit card will not be mailed to the candidate or no separate communication will be done regarding this. No duplicate admit card will be issued in case the admit card is lost.

The admit card will bear the following information-

  • Roll Number
  • Name
  • Father’s Name
  • Photograph
  • Test City
  • Test center address
  • Test timings along with the reporting time.

SET 2018 is scheduled to be conducted in the 1st week of May 2018. The examination will be conducted only once. Hence, those candidates who don’t turn up for the examination will be automatically disqualified from the selection process.

Admission Procedure for SET

After the successful completion of the test, a merit list will be prepared by the exam conducting body. Each institute will be having its own cut off score. The institutes will then announce the list of shortlisted candidates eligible for the further selection procedure. Waitlist can be released by a particular institute if there the availability of seats.

The notifications for the exam will start from early November 2017 on the institution’s official website. The application form will be released on 27th December 2017 and will close on 20th January 2018.

SET 2018 Syllabus

SET 2018 will have only multiple choice questions and the total duration of the exam is 2 hours and 30 minutes. The exam pattern varies for different streams. Specifically, there are five papers that come under Symbiosis Entrance Test and based on which stream the candidate wants to pursue, he/she has to choose the respective paper.

For physics, chemistry, and mathematics, the syllabus revolves around the 11th grade and 12th grade portions as prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

SET 2018 Results & Cut off

Different Universities will decide on a different cut off for the courses offered. Usually, the cut off marks will be released by the universities as soon as the results are declared. These scores will be available on the official website.

The candidates will have to check the cut off marks specified by each college and compare their own scores. If they have scored more than the cut off then they will be eligible to apply for that particular university. Using the cut-off marks as the minimum marks, different universities will shortlist students for the next rounds, namely written ability test and personal interviews. Different colleges tend to have different cut off percentages and this value also varies according to the category. Ever participating university will have their own cutoffs and it is advised that students take a look at the cut off marks selected by the university before applying.

Score Validity

Candidate’s score in SET is only valid for one year. They will have to take up the exam again the next year if they have missed out on the previous year.

SET 2018 Counseling Schedule

As soon as the results are announced, the institution will release a merit list i.e. a list of shortlisted candidates and waiting list. These shortlisted students will have to go through the next set of rounds namely written ability test and personal interview.  Candidates who clear all the rounds will only be eligible for counseling.

Once the seat allotment is done, candidates are requested to give their confirmation and pay the fees. Candidates who fail to do so will have their seat will be cancelled.

It is advised that students practice the sample papers and previous year’s question papers before appearing for the exam. This will be extremely helpful and will also introduce the students to the pattern followed in the exam.
