Colleges accepting NEET 2018 score

It is imperative that all the colleges offering courses in medicine take students based on their score in NEET and hence every medical college in India will grant admissions to students based on their NEET score. The following is the list of the top colleges:

NEET 2018 Cutoff

NEET cut-off is the minimum marks that should be scored in order to qualify for an admission in any university. This mark is usually decided by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Usually, the cut-off marks are released before the exam and this gives the students an estimate of how much they need to score and hence this determines their preparations. One should note that the cut off marks are released in the form of percentile. The cut-off mark according to the category is as follows:

Category Cut off Percentile
OBC 40
SC 40
ST 40
UR and PH 45
OBC and PH 40
SC and PH 40
ST and PH 40
Others 50

It should be noted that just by scoring above the respective percentile does not guarantee an admission into any college. It merely makes the candidate eligible for counseling. There are many factors that influence the decision of selecting the cut off marks like number of students appearing for the exam, number of seats available, difficulty of the exam etc.

The following is a table that depicts the statistics of 2016 – the number of students who attempted the exam and number of students who crossed the cut-off.

Category Registered Appeared Qualifies
Male Candidates 4,97,043 4,73,305 2,66,221
Female Candidates 6,41,839 6,16,771 3,45,313
Transgender 8 8 5
Total 11,38,890 10,90,085 6,11,539

Score validity

The NEET score is only valid for one year. If candidates fail to attend the counseling session for the current year or any other reason, then they will have to write the exam again the next ear to be eligible to get a seat in medicine in any college in India.

NEET 2018 Reservations & Seat Distribution

There is a portion of seats reserved in every college for candidates belonging to the following categories: SC, ST, and OBC. Additionally, physically handicapped people also have a few seats reserved. The following are the statistics:

Category Percentage of reserved seats
SC (Scheduled Caste) 15%
ST (Scheduled Tribe) 7.5%
OBC 27%
Physically Handicapped 3%

As soon as the results are announced, a merit list will be announced where candidates will be ranked based on their performance in the NEET exam. This merit list is primarily used for All India Quota (AIQ) counseling where candidates from all parts of our country can apply to all colleges.

15% of the total seats are reserved for this purpose. The 85% of the remaining seats will be taken up during state counseling where people belonging to a particular state will only have the opportunity to apply for colleges in their state.

NEET 2018 Counseling Schedule

Counseling is usually conducted in the month of July. First and foremost candidates will have to register on the official website indicating their willingness to attend the counseling session. Based on this response, candidates will be called for counseling. The first round of counseling is called All India Quota counseling, where based on the merit list, candidates can apply to all colleges located all across the country.

Once the AIQ counseling gets over, the first round of state counseling starts. During this session, people belonging to a particular state are given an opportunity to chose their colleges, only the colleges located in that particular state. For example, a candidate belonging to the state of Maharashtra can only apply for colleges that are located in Maharashtra.

Once the first round of state counseling gets over, the second round of All India Quota counseling is conducted which is followed by another round of state counseling.  Once the above-mentioned rounds are completed, a mop-up round of counseling is conducted where candidates get to pick their choice from the left out seats (if any).

Usually, classes begin from the month of August and all candidates have to pay the fees and start attending their classes at their respective universities on the required dates.

Sample Papers

Past year papers can be accessed by visiting the official website. Solving past year papers will give the candidate an idea of the level of the exam and their preparation level. Additionally, there are many sample papers too. Candidates can access these papers by visiting the official website.
