What is JEE Mains?
JEE Mains stands for Joint Entrance Exam (Mains) which is conducted by the Central Board of Education (CBSE) every year to admit students into engineering and architecture courses in universities like National Institute of Technology (NIT),Centrally funded technical institutions( CFTI’s) and many other engineering colleges spread across the country.
The exam also acts as a qualifying exam for JEE advanced, which is the entrance exam for Indian Institute of Technology (IIT’s) and Indian School of Mines (ISM).
JEE Mains 2019 Pattern of the Exam
Candidates can choose either the online mode or the offline mode for taking the exam. There are two papers that come under JEE Mains exam.
Paper-1 is taken by people applying for engineering courses while paper-2 is taken by candidates applying for B. Arch and B. Planning courses. All the questions asked will be of objective type i.e. multiple choice questions. The exam pattern for paper-1 is as follows:

Every right answer is awarded 4 marks and for every wrong answer, one mark is deducted. The exam can be taken either in English or in Hindi.
Candidates hailing from Gujarat, Daman & Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli have the option of taking the exam in Gujarati. The choice of language should be given while filling up the application form.
The pattern for paper-2 of JEE main is as follows:

In paper-2, the drawing section is subjective while the other sections are objective. The marking scheme is the same for these sections except for the drawing section where one question carries 35 marks. Additionally, there is no provision to take the paper-2 exam online, it can only be taken offline. Though, the online facility is provided for paper-1.
JEE Mains 2019 Eligibility Criteria
The following is the list of criteria that the candidate must fulfill in order to apply for this exam.
- Candidates who have finished their 12thgrade in 2016 or 2017 are eligible for this exam. Additionally, people appearing for the 12th grade exam in 2018 are also eligible.
- The candidate should have passed their 12thgrade from any recognized board in order to apply for JEE mains 2018. Although there is no minimum marks requirement, the candidate should have passed the exam.
- The candidate should have taken subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in their 12th
- Diploma holders can apply for this exam but can only secure an admission into the IIT’s. As JEE main is a qualifying exam for JEE advanced, they are allowed to take the exam.
- For admissions into IIT’s, NIT’s and CFTI’s, candidates should have scored a minimum of 75% in their 12th. The minimum score for students belonging to the SC/ST caste is 65%.
- The maximum number of attempts for this exam is 3 times in consecutive years.
JEE Mains Application forms and submission procedure 2019
The online application form opens on 1st December 2017 and closes on 1st January 2018. Candidates aspiring to write this exam should submit the completed application form by 1st January 2018.
Below-mentioned are the steps which should be followed by the applicants for filling and submitting the application form:
- The first and foremost step for the candidates should be to register themselves under the New Candidate Registration tab on the official website.
- Once the candidates register, they get access to the application form which they will need to fill with care. It is mandatory for candidates to give their Aadhaar Card numbers while registering (except for candidates hailing from Jammu, Meghalaya, and Assam).
- Next, they have to upload the required documents as mentioned below.
After uploading the necessary documents, the candidates have to proceed to pay the exam fee. The exam fee varies depending on the gender and the caste of the candidate. The fee can be paid either by online payment or through e-challan.
The documents to be attached with the application form include:
- Scanned copy of your passport size photographs
- Scanned signature
- Scanned thumb impression
- Scanned copy of 10thgrade mark sheet
- Scanned copy of 12thgrade mark sheet (if applicable)
Make sure that the all the images uploaded should be in jpg or jpeg format. The size of the images uploaded should be between 1kb and 30k. The dimensions of the photograph should be 3.5cm x 4.5cm.The dimensions of the images with the signature and the thumb impression should be 3.5cm x 1.5cm. It is important that the candidates follow the given dimensions for images if violated; they will not be able to submit the application.

Once the candidate finishes all the above-mentioned steps, they can proceed to submit the form. On submitting the form, the candidates are given an application number which will be used for future reference. It is advised that the candidates keep a copy of the application form and note down the application number.
JEE Mains 2019 Admit Cards
Once the candidate fills and submits the application form, he/she can download their admit cards. Synonymous with a hall ticket, the admit card is of extreme importance and needs to be carried by the candidate while appearing for the test, irrespective of whether the candidate is appearing for an online or an offline exam.
The admit card has the following information:
- The applicant’s application number
- The name of the applicant
- Date of birth
- Test date
- Mode of Exam
- Venue for the exam
- Timings of the test
JEE Mains 2019 Admission Procedure
Once the candidate gives his / her exam, they will have to wait for the results. Usually, the results will be declared during the last week of April. Once the results are declared, a merit list will be declared that gives the ranking of the students. Based on the ranking, candidates will be called for counseling.
During counseling, students get to choose their course and campus based on the availability and their interest. Once the students select their respective course and campus, they will be directed to pay the fees. Once they finish all the formalities, the candidates have to report to their respective campuses for their studies.
JEE Mains 2019 Notification
The notification for the examination is published in the month of November/December every year. The notification 2018 is already out and candidates can view the same by visiting the official website.
JEE Main 2019 Syllabus
JEE Main will be a 3-hour examination. There will be three sections in the question paper namely – Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing Test. Out of these three sections, Mathematics and Aptitude Test will be an objective based test whereas the Drawing Test will be a test of drawing aptitude of a candidate. The exam will be conducted in pen and paper based mode only. Given below is the distribution of questions for JEE Main paper:

JEE Mains 2019 Results
The results of JEE Main paper will be declared around the fourth week of April 2018. Candidates will be able to check their results and download their scorecard from the official website. After the conduction of the examination, candidates are expected to regularly visit the official website for updates regarding declaration of results.

Score Validity
The validity of the examination score stands for the particular academic year only. Hence, the validity of JEE Main score will be for the academic year 2018-19 only.
JEE Mains 2019 Reservation & Seat Distribution
