What is CUCET?

Central Universities Common Entrance Test or CUCET is a nationwide entrance test organized for admissions into undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D-level courses in the following universities:

CUCET 2018 was conducted on 28-29 April 2018. The basic eligibility criterion is class 12th pass. The exam consists of a total of 100 question divided into 2 parts.

Structure of CUCET exam

The CUCET examination is an offline pen-and-paper-based evaluation conducted on an OMR sheet and comprises a total of 100 multiple choice questions divided amongst two parts – Part A and Part B.

Medium of Language: CUCET is to be written in English only and no other language is offered as an option.

Allotment of marks: The rules for evaluation are the same for all kinds of question papers. Each correct answer carries 1 mark (according to the revised scheme) while every wrong answer is associated with negative 0.25 marks. The maximum score obtainable is thus 100.

Part A holds 25 MCQs while Part B holds 75. Part B is again sub-divided into multiple sections of 25 questions each; a selected few sections are mandatory while anyone section must be picked and attempted from the remaining.

The questions that form Part A deal with the following subjects: English Language, General Awareness, Mathematical Aptitude, and Analytical Skills. The examinee has no choice but to be fairly well-versed with all these topics, irrespective of the course being applied for.

Part B contains course-specific queries that are usually asked from subjects that were already taught to the candidate prior to applying for CUCET. The questions that make up Part B are dictated by the type of program the applicant intends to enroll in.

Course Exam structure

Application forms and submission procedure

A bulleted list containing the steps involved in the online process is shown below:

  • Filling the online application form
  • Uploading scanned documents (photo and signature)
  • Payment of the examination fee

Step-1: Registration

Registrations for CUCET start with the submission of the application form in digital format only (offline mode is not available). The online form needs to be filled through the official website of CUCET. All the relevant details have to be typed in.

The candidate may select no more than three participating institutes that he/she is willing to consider. Around three courses that the applicant is eligible for can be chosen from each shortlisted university. Choosing a convenient test center is also necessary.

Step-2: Uploading documents

The next step is to upload softcopies of the scanned photograph as well as signature. After the documents have been attached, the CUCET exam fee needs to be given before proceeding further.

Step-3: Fee Payment

The cost amounts to Rs. 800 for General/OBC and Rs. 350 for SC/ST, which can either be paid via credit card/debit card/net banking or through the e-challan mode by depositing the money in an SBI branch.

Bank charges of Rs. 50 are added to the base fee in both cases, meaning that the total expenditure becomes Rs. 850 and Rs. 400 for General/OBC and SC/ST, respectively. Students from the PWD category are exempted from any payment whatsoever.

Admit Card

CUCET 2018 will be held in the 3rd week of May.

If the applicant complies with each instruction while filling the form and makes the payment accordingly, a confirmation will be sent to the email address and phone number provided in the submitted application as soon as the transaction has been successfully processed.

The candidate’s admit card shall be downloadable from the website after signing in using the original login credentials well before the test. A hard copy of the same is essential for attending CUCET and must be taken to the allotted venue.

The admit card contains information related to the examination and includes details like the applicant’s roll number, date & time of the test, guidelines, etc.

Admission Procedure

The results of the test can be viewed on the CUCET website and the final scorecard is available for download. Those who have gotten through will eventually be contacted for the counseling round, which is an online procedure wherein the candidate has to select multiple universities of interest that he/she would like to enroll in.

Whether a seat in the concerned university is given or not largely depends on whether the applicant’s CUCET score is above the minimum qualifying marks needed for consideration, availability of vacancies in the corresponding program, and whether or not the applicant is eligible for admissions.

After confirmation of the allotment, a verification process will be held at the university that marks the candidate’s final decision.

The following documents are required by the college authorities and must be taken to the respective institute office for completing the final round:

  • 10th marks card
  • 12th marks card
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate (if applicable)
  • Master’s degree certificate (if applicable)
  • Passport size photographs
  • CUCET scorecard
  • CUCET admit card
  • Category certificate (if applicable)
  • Miscellaneous documents (wherever applicable)

The applicant must ensure that a minimum of two photocopies accompanies the original certificates. (compulsorily)
