University of Madras was established in the year 1854. It is one of the oldest and most prominent Universities in India.

The Institute of distance education of Madras university was started in the year 1981 with aim of providing affordable education to students who cannot pursue regular courses. It offers course material using blended learning, interactive and face to face classroom environment.

The university has introduced Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for regular courses in 2017. They have common syllabus for both regular and distance courses.

It has 100+ study and exam centers throughout the country and abroad.

At present, around 1,60,000 students are enrolled in this university.

Distance MBA Admission 2023-24

Madras University conducts Distance MBA admissions in 2 cycles – academic year and calendar year. Academic year starts in June and calendar year starts in January.

The total duration of the course is 2 years. Each year has 2 semesters.

Candidates can apply for Distance Education courses at the University of Madras either online or offline only.

Online Application Process

• Visit the official website :www.ideunom.ac.in.
• Register with a valid email Id and contact number.
• Fill out the application form with details like parents name, aadhaar number, caste, DOB, Medium of instruction and more.
• Upload the photo with name
• Attach scanned copies of certificates
• Attach the photo and signature.
• Submit the application form and take a print out.
• Send original certificates with photocopies, Copy of Provisional Intimation Slip and Passport size photograph by Registered post/speed post/ courier to

  Documents should be sent within 15 days from the date of online Registration for verification purpose. Candidates can also get their documents verified in person by visiting Single Window Admission Centre, Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras.
• Candidate will be offered provisional admission on receipt of documents and their verification.
• Fees can be paid online through Online Payment Gateway System provided on university website
• Candidate will have to appear for the MBA entrance test online.

Offline Admission Process

• Admission can be sought through Single Window Admission Centre located at Institute of Distance Education, Chennai.
• Download the application form from university website and submit filled form at the admission counter along with copies of certificates and filled-in Computer Coding Sheet.
• Original certificates along with their photocopies should be submitted. Originals will be returned on verification.
• Candidates need to appear for the entrance test at the center itself after paying Rs.400 for exam fee.
• If the candidate clears the exam, provisional admission will be offered.
• Candidate need to pay the tuition fee at any branch of Indian Bank.
• On receipt of payment, study material and ID card will be given to the students.

Admission Through Learner Support Centers

• There are 87 learner support centers in Tamil Nadu
• Students can download the application form and prospectus from university website and submit filled form at leaner support center.
• Other required documents and certificates should also be produced at the time of form submission.
• Candidates will be given provisional admission and an enrollment number.
• Candidate needs to pay the fee online. It can also be paid offline by submitting triplicate Challan of Indian bank at learner support center.
• University will confirm the admission on receipt of the fee. Candidate can collect the identity card and study material from learner support center itself.
• Candidate will have to appear for the MBA entrance test online.

Admission Confirmation and Dispatch of Study Material

On completion of admission process, candidate will be assigned an enrollment number. Identity card and study material will be send to postal address mentioned in the admission form.

Distance MBA Admission 2023-2024 Important Dates

Last date to apply for January-2024 session is 31-March-2024. Last date to apply for June-2024 session is 31st September 2024.

Distance MBA Fee Structure 2023-24

Total course fee for Madras University Distance MBA in 2023-24 is Rs.40,750/- for 2 years. Fee can be paid in two installments of Rs.20,150/- (first year) and Rs.17,600/- (second year).

The students also need to pay additional project fee of Rs.3000/-.

Madras university also offers online MBA program that costs Rs.38,340/- for 2 years. Students from other universities need to pay approximately Rs.500 extra every year.

Mode of Fee Payment

• Tuition fee should be paid only after the university sends provisional admission letter to the candidate along with generated tuition fee challan
• Use generated fee challan only for fee payment
• Fee cannot be paid in installments
• Students can pay fee online on university website www.ideunom.ac.in
• Student can also pay fee at Indian Bank branch using generated fee challan.
• Challan has 3 parts – Bank Copy, IDE Copy and Student Copy. IDE Copy should be sent to the university
• Fee can also be paid by Demand Draft drawn in favour of “The Director, IDE, University of Madras” payable at Chennai.
• Fee will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Scholarships

Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates are eligible for reimbursement of fees. They are also eligible for an annual allowance of Rs.500/- towards the purchase of essential books.

The prescribed SC/ST scholarship form and other particulars in this connection can be obtained from the SC/ST Cell, Office of the Director, Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras, Chepauk, Chennai – 600005. SC/ST students need to submit the photocopy of the first page of the bank passbook and details like Name, Account No, IFSC Code No, MICR Code No, Name of the Bank, Branch, Branch Code No along with photocopy of Aadhaar card.

Eligible visually or physically-challenged candidates can get State Government Scholarship for the disabled. The prescribed form may be obtained from the “District Rehabilitation Officer” in the districts concerned for reimbursement of non-refundable fees.

The University has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with the five-star rating first, and later with an ‘A’ rating. UGC has recognized the University as one of the centers for “potential for excellence” in the country.

Its Institute of Distance Education has been ranked 21^st by a leading ranking body in the list of its top institutes for distance education as of 2015.

Placements

The University lacks a special placement cell but they do hold seminars where the students are provided with details of opportunities. They also have internship programs for SC/ST, OBC, and candidates from other minority classes.

Distance MBA Eligibility

Candidates for admission to the first year of the Master of Business Administration Degree Course in the Institute of Distance Education shall be required to have any one of the following qualifications:

• A pass in any branch of study of a Bachelor Degree/Master Degree of the University of Madras or any other University recognized by the UGC/AIU or a qualification accepted by this University under 10+2+3 pattern
• A Professional Degree in either Engineering/ Technology/ Medicine/ Architecture/ Law
• Professional qualification in Accountancy / Cost & Works Accountancy / Company Secretaryship
• Candidates will also need to pass the entrance test conducted by the university.

Only Indian nationals can apply for admission.
